For fire-retardant coatings, ensure the surface to be coated is clean and dry. For previously coated surfaces, sand lightly and apply a specially formualted undercoat in advance of the fire-retardant coating application.

For fire-retardant coated surfaces where appearance is important, apply the coating in two light layers while meeting the recommended application rates of the manufacturer. Final colour can be obtained by applying up to two coats of alkyd paint over the clear or white fire-retardant coating.
