SOM Releases Timber Tower Research Project 

  

Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM) released a Timber Tower Research Project on June 3rd - an initiative sponsored by the Softwood Lumber Board (SLB) to establish the structural viability of a 42-storey-tall prototypical mass timber framed building.

Building Industry Releases Report - Calls for Changes to the Ontario Building Code

 

Ontario Mid-Rise smThe Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD),
with support from the Residential Construction Council of
Ontario (RESCON) and the Canadian Wood Council, released a
report on May 22nd entitled ‘Unlocking the Potential for Mid-Rise
Buildings’, in Toronto advocating for an Ontario Building
Code (OBC) change for wood-frame mid-rise construction.
The report presents strong planning and economic rationales
for changing the existing OBC to permit wood-frame buildings
higher than 4-storeys.

Canadian Wood Council Announces Opportunity for High-Rise Wood Demonstration Projects

 


The CWC has issued a request for an Expression of Interest (EOI) for Canadian developers, institutions, organizations and design teams willing to undertake an innovative approach to designing and building high-rise wood demonstration projects. CWC and AWC Release Wood Environmental Product Declarations

 

Today CWC and the American Wood Council (AWC) have announced the release of four new environmental product declarations (EPDs) for North American wood products, including softwood lumber, plywood, oriented strand board, and glue-laminated lumber. Read the press release.
